As you may or may not know about my work experience in the food service industry, I just wanted take this time to re-introduce myself and share my background with you.
For the greater part of my career, I was employed with the City of Houston’s Food Safety Inspection program. Soon after, I went to work with Digital Health Department (Garrison Enterprises) as a VP of Client Consulting and worked there until 2011. I joined Bloomin’ Brands, Inc. (home of outback Steakhouse, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar) as a Global Manager for Food Safety (Regulatory Compliance). By working cross-functionally, we were able to enhance regulatory compliance across all restaurants – as related to food safety culture and behavior. I authored their food safety management system – SOP, created third party audit and implemented so many food safety enhancement items.
While at the City of Houston, I managed a staff of 60 employees, who were primarily focused on conducting food safety regulatory inspections in the city. I also worked with several industry stakeholders, which was a win-win situation for everyone. I’ve also been in close correspondence with many city officials, county officials and state and federal officials in getting total compliance. Throughout the years, I’ve maintained a great rapport with the local and national media representatives to get important messages out to the citizens and visitors.
During my tenure with Garrison Enterprises (now known as Digital Health Department), I worked with the public health officials, C-Level officials and became a viable link with the company’s technical staff in order to help achieve a perfect Digital Health Department for the clients. Some of the major clients I worked closely with include the City of Chicago, Washington DC, San Antonio and Tulsa, as they moved from the paper/pen method to using custom software applications to conduct their food safety and regulatory inspections.
I have been involved with the Conference for Food Protection (CFP) since 1998 and am greatly involved in promoting the mission – mutual respect and trust by establishing a working liaison among governmental agencies, industries, academic institutions, professional associations and consumer groups – concerned with food safety. Lastly, I am a registered Sanitarian with the State of Texas. I also have a certification in Comprehensive Food Safety through National Environmental Health Association. I am also a Qualified Individual (QI) for FSMA’s Preventive Controls for Human Food.
